I am starting a new small project which will provide web design and hosting to clients in my local area. Since the economy is tough I don’t want to invest a lot of money, besides, I already have everything that I need, Billing Software, Host Account, the only thing I needed to invest was in a domain and business cards to promote.

I came across a GoDaddy domain offer for a total of $1.49 for a .com and decided to register the domain. I have used Name.com, 1and1.com, but never GoDaddy and the control panel is very different from the others. In my opinion the worst since it is NOT user friendly and it has way too many options and most of them to purchase new services so, be very careful where you click! :)

I decided to use custom nameservers for example ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com instead of ns1. myhostdomain.com and ns2.myhostdomain.com. It took me some time to find it but I was able to do it and today I will show you how to do it.

A few days ago I purchased a VPS to learn server management and just mess around with it. I currently don’t have any domains free so I am accessing it using the ip given by my vps provider. I remember a few years ago I read somewhere online that you can point a subdomain to an ip in a different server (or external ip). For example: let’s say I want “server.ijemuel.com” to point me to my VPS. So I started doing some research but I couldn’t find a solution.

I decided to open a ticket and thanks to my Host (MonkeyWrenchHosting – vps is not from here) I was able to learn how to do it and today I will show you how to do it.

The Bat! is my favorite email client. It is very easy to setup and it has many features. I barely use them all but I like the interface and to me it is very easy to use. I have multiple email accounts (Personal, Business, Websites) and The Bat! makes it very easy for me to stay up-to-date with all my emails. Most of my emails are @gmail.com accounts but I have one from Hotmail.

The settings The Bat! has for @Gmail.com accounts works just fine but when I tried to setup my @live.com account I started having some connection errors. I started messing around with it until finally figured it out. Here are the settings that are currently working for me:

Send Email

  • SMTP Server: smtp.live.com
  • Connection: Regular
  • Port: 25

Receive Email

  • Mail Server: pop3.live.com
  • User: your-email@live.com
  • Password: Your Password, of course ;)
  • Connection: Secure to dedicated port (TLS)
  • Port: 995

You can also take a look at the picture below:

The only things I changed were the ports and the send/receive server settings. I hope that this helps anyone who encountered the same problem as me.
