Backup Your Website Files with GoodSync

I personally love GoodSync, it's very easy to use and it has a very friendly interface. I use it to backup/sync my Websites, MP3, and USB Flash Drive. Over the last few months, I decided to test a few  other similar programs and none of them, either Free or Paid came close to GoodSync (Personal Opinion).

Having a backup of your website is very important, the server could fail, get hack or the hard drive cold stop working at any time, this is why you must have a backup. I backup my websites up to 3 times per day and sometimes even more depending on the situation. Today, I will show you the easiest way to do it.

What We Need

  • GoodSync | A 30 Day  Trial can be downloaded by Clicking Here
  • Server IP Adress
  • FTP Username and Password

Step 1 - Download and Install GoodSync. You can download a 30 Day Trial HERE.

Step 2- Open Notepad or any word processor of your choice and type the following:

  • Server IP: Type IP Here
  • FTP Username: Type Username Here
  • FTP Password: Type Password Here

This information can be found by login in to your Cpanel/Direct Admin account. Having this information typed like this will help us a lot.

Step 3 - Open GoodSync and go to Job -> New

Step 4 - After clicking "New" a window will show up. Enter your desired Job Name, in this tutorial I will use "iJemuel Backup". Select "Synchronize" and click OK.

Step 5 - Click the left "Browse" button, this will be the files that we want to backup, in this case the website files so we must connect via FTP. After clicking the button, a window will show up,  type the information in the corresponding boxes and click "GO" as shown below:

After clicking "Go" browse and find the folder/files that you want to backup and click "Ok"

Step 6 - Right before the Second "Browse" button (the one close to the right), there's a button in the middle with 2 arrows pointing at the opposite directions, as shown below. Click that button.

Step 7 - After clicking the button, a window will show up. Choose "1-Way Left to Right" in the drop-down menu. Click Apply and then Ok, as shown below:

Step 8 - Click the Second "Browse" button (the one close to the right). After clicking the button, a window will show up. Click on "My Computer" and browse for the location where you want to save the backup files. Then click "Ok"

Step 9 - Now that we have everything setup, let's click on "Analyze". This will make the program scan your website files and only backup the new/changed files. Since this is the first time doing it, the program will backup every single file, but the next time you run it, it will only backup the new/changed files saving you a lot of time.

Step 10 - After the program is done Analyzing, click the "Sync" button to start the backup and you are done!

As you can see, it might take 5 minutes to set it up but it's very easy and very worth it! Hope you liked this post and that it helps you in someway. If you use another program or know of a program that might be better please leave a comment to let me know!
